Celebration of the 134th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF SRI SRINIVASA RAMANUJAN

  • The Department of Mathematics celebrated the 134th birth anniversary of Sri SrinivasaRamanujan on the 21st December 2021. A quiz competition was conducted on this day for I year students of our institution. The students participated with full enthusiasm and zeal.
  • This event commenced a week before by assessing the student's mathematical proficiency and their analytical reasoning through a pen-paper test. The Mathematics Association ‘TRANSFORM’ possessed the quiz competition and stamped it as 'QUIZOMANIA'. 15 students were shortlisted and 5 teams each team comprising of three was formed. The Quiz competition was held at the mini auditorium on the 21st December 2021.To encourage the pupils with an artistic thirst, a Poster-preparing competition was also set up.
  • The quiz event on 21st December began with a dearest welcome speech by the Principal Dr.P. Suresh Mohan Kumar. The show was then captivated by Mr. Harish M, President of ‘TRANSFORM’ ,III year, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.The audience played a tremendous role in cheering the participants in the panel. Dr.Meena S, Professor and Head of the Department of Mathematics , gave her unputdownable phrases to energize the students with her knowledge.
  • The programme started with an invocation prayer by our students, followed with the felicitation of the our Guest DrYokesh, Faculty of Kirirom Institute of Technology, Cambodia by Ms.Urmilaa, Treasurer of ‘TRANSFORM’, III year, Department of Information Technology. Dr. Meena Ssharedseveral interesting facts about the great Mathematical Genius Sri SrinivasaRamanujan. The Principal addressed the gathering with his fascinating advice and then personally greeted the Chief Guest. The president of the mathematics association Mr. Harish officially invited the Chief Guest Dr.Yokesh, Faculty of KIRIROM Institute of Technology, Cambodia, to interact with the gathering virtually, after which the students were espoused by the speaker.
  • The Principal along with the Head of the Department of Mathematics, were called to the stage to give away the awards for the ‘QUIZOMANIA’ masters. Cash prize and certificate of appreciation was given to the winners, while participation certificate were given to all participants. Three best posters were selected based on the creativeness and in order to promote their creativity, small gifts were presented to the students along with the certificate of appreciation.
  • The program was concluded with a short feedback session and Ms. AtheebaFeroz, Secretary of ‘TRANSFORM’, III year Department of Information Technology, called off the show by giving thanking theGuest with her alluring words.

MATHEMATICS ASSOCIATION – ‘‘TRANSFORM’’

The Department of Mathematics of Anand Institute of Higher Technology had the inaugural function of their Mathematics Association “TRANSFORM” on 17th February 2016. Professor Dr. S. Sundar, Department of Mathematics, IIT Madras was the Chief Guest for the function. Professor Dr. S. Sundar delivered his keynote speech on the “Application of Mathematics in Engineering”.

GUEST LECTURE ORGANIZED

  • The Mathematics Association conducted a Guest Lecture on the 31 March 2018. Dr. J. Pandurangan, Professor (Rtd), Department of Mathematics, Anna University, Chennai delivered a talk on the “Applications of Mathematics in Engineering”.
  • The Mathematics Association conducted a Guest Lecture on the 16th February 2017. Dr. K. Thirusangu, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, S.I.V.E.T. College, Gowrivakkam delivered a talk on the “Applications of Mathematics in Engineering”.
  • Learning Engineering Mathematics I through an app (using smart phone) developed by Dr Venkatesh and Ms Uma (both alumnus of IIT Madras), founders of Mylspot was conducted on 7th October 2016 for the I year BE/ B Tech students. A demo session was given on Multiple Integrals.
  • A Guest Lecture was organized by the Department of Mathematics on 10th March 2015. Dr. S. Arumugam, Senior Professor (Research) & Director, n CARDMATH, Kalasalingam University was the key speaker. He spoke on Graph Theory and its Applications in Real Life.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME /WORKSHOP ORGANIZED

  • The Mathematics Department conducted the six days online Faculty Development Programme on Applications of Mathematics in Diverse Fields from 29.06.2020 to 04.07.2020.
  • The Mathematics Association ‘‘TRANSFORM ’’ organized a One Day Instructional Workshop on 28th September 2016. In order to inculcate the interest in Mathematics our senior students conducted this motivational workshop exclusively for the I year students. The workshop was followed by a Quiz competition.
  • A One Day workshop was organized on the 28th October 2015 for the I year students on Vedic Mathematics. The Resource Speaker was Mr K P Krishnamurthy, Managing Director of Career Institutions, Coimbatore.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

  • The Mathematics Department conducted the online Math Quiz for 12th and Diploma Students on 06.05.2020
  • Department of Mathematics conducted the General Aptitude E-Quiz from 20.05.2020 to 26.05.2020
  • To celebrate the 131st Birth Anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Department of Mathematics has conducted the Mathematics Talent test on 28.12.2018.

MATRIBHASHA DIWAS

MatribhashaDiwas -International Mother Language Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Anand Institute of Higher Technology.The Management of our Institution extended their full support and encouraged the faculty to conduct such events.

In order to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity, following events were organized for our students.

  1. Poster Making & Slogan Writing Competition on “Unity in Diversity- Incredible India”.
  2. Essay Writing Competition on“Using Technology for Multilingual Learning: Challenges and Opportunities”

The Principal highlighted the importance of the Mother Language Day and encouraged our students to learn different languages that may help one to understand and connect to others. This was followed by the Co-ordinatorsDrMeena S, Professor & Head, Department of Mathematics and MrSaravanan, Assistant Professor, ECE Department/ NSS Programme Officer who shared some of their views on benefits and the joy of knowing a language other than their mother tongue. Also the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat was brought out through such events.

Considering the present scenario, social distancing was maintained and we had only the first year studentsof different branches of engineering participate in the events. However, the senior students could not be part of it due to their ongoing university examinations.

Judges for the poster making competition were from the School of Architecture, Anand School of Architecture and for the Essay competition we had faculty from English Department.

Essay writing competition was conducted batch-wise, considering the COVID 19 precautionary measures. The session ended with some of the faculty and students giving their feedback, followed by the national anthem.
